You may be aware of the California initiative that came from the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 which addresses concerns of Californians about exposure to toxic chemicals in many household items and at restaurants and food chains sold in California.
New regulations regarding “clear and reasonable” warnings affecting Prop 65 were adopted in August 2016 and will be mandated August 2018 in the State of California.
In efforts to be proactive prior to the newly mandated labeling laws going into effect August 1, 2018, you will see labeling on all McGuire products and communications/marketing materials.
What is Proposition 65?
Prop 65, originally approved by California voters as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, was intended to protect “the state’s drinking water sources from being contaminated with chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm, and requires businesses to inform Californians about exposures to such chemicals.”
What is the impact of the law on McGuire’s plumbing products?
Because McGuire products are made of brass that contains (trace) amounts of lead and are sold and installed in California, Prop 65 requires that a warning label be applied to our product packaging. McGuire has determined the best way to be compliant with Prop 65 is to apply the warning label below to all of our products and not just products being sold into the California market.
